Bale building attracts young and old, novice and expert, male and female
Straw bale building is the foundation on which Harvest homes was formed. Our crews and instructors have put their hands and minds to more than 60 varied straw bale structures. From urban additions to existing century homes in Guelph, Kitchener and Heidelberg, to institutional, agricultural and commercial structures in Wellington and Simcoe Counties, to estate homes and secluded retreats across Muskoka, Blue Mountains, Durham, Niagara and internationally, we have enjoyed many rewarding experiences. And we have been privileged to work for and with so many great people.
In our view, straw bale building is a building method that is accessible to any person with the right aptitudes, interests and motivation. It is forgiving of imprecision making it ideal for non-tradespeople to tackle in a way that conventional materials don’t invite. And imperfections when formed by your own hand are no longer blemishes but rather a welcomed part of the living history of the building.
While we will happily supply and install turn-key finished walls at your request, or even manage the entire construction project, we also are proud of the support that we provide to do-it-yourselfers of varying skill-levels.
If you wish to impart yourself personally into the project, we can lead the bale wall component while you share the workload with our own team as a peer labourer. In this manner you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour without the stress or risks inherent in managing. Or you can head up oversight of this work yourself, while we provide you with skilled supplemental labour.
However much or however little aid you think ideal, we will be pleased to meet your needs. Our straw and plaster team are regularly booked several months in advance. Call us now to ensure your spot in the short Ontario building season.
